On September 26, we celebrated the opening of the D21/Solo exhibition „Anstiftung zur Vorspiegelung wahrer Tatsachen“ by artist and filmmaker Juliane Jaschnow. In her opening speech, Constanze Müller highlighted the artist’s distinctive working methods and offered insights into the exhibited works. In Anstiftung zur Vorspiegelung wahrer Tatsachen Juliane Jaschnow presents a three-part body of work consisting of installations and video pieces. The multipart work «mit freundlichem Beifall» addresses the continuities of propagandistic stagings in Russia and the mechanisms of disinformation and deception.
At the center of Rekapitulieren is a replica of the Berlin Reichstag, constructed by the Russian Ministry of Defense in the military-patriotic theme park Patriot Park near Moscow. In her new work, Jaschnow also turns her gaze to supernatural practices that function as individual coping strategies in times of collective uncertainty and the harsh realities of war.
Her research processes a vast amount of visual material from Russian media into a multipart installation of props, mirror objects, a teleprompter, and videos. Within a specially constructed hall of mirrors of optical illusion—a photo-multigraph—she explores the concepts of truth, lies, deception, and illusion.
